Exercise — Why Bother?

cardiovascular exercises   It is likely that you have either read or heard of a few of the claims promoting exercise.  Whether you have or not, do NOT bother reading further.  Really!  Chances are you have already made up your mind on this topic.  And being reminded of something you already know might be beneficial could be bothersome and frustrating…even stressful.  So, just forget it.

More and more, it is generally agreed that a better quality of life can be achieved if we just KEEP MOVING.  Whether that is in the form of walking, running, jogging, weight training, yoga, Pilates, trampolines, cycling, or some other cardiovascular exercise doesn’t seem to matter much.  What does matter, is that we get active and stay active and in motion avoiding the tendency to become sedentary.  Apparently, we were not designed to be complete spectators in all of life.

Staying active and exercising regularly can surely help a person to maintain their ideal weight.  Some use exercise to lose weight.  But what about other medical and psychological benefits.  Many claim to have reduced their dependency on various drugs (legal and not) with exercise.  Not a few tout they have an overall increase in a feeling of well-being when they add regular exercise to their life regimen.

As the population ages, a lot is being written on the many challenges our society is likely to face because of so many baby boomers’ demands on the system.  Preventive care, which almost always includes some form of exercise and fitness, are two words we’re hearing more and more about from all quarters, medical and governmental.  Perhaps there’s something to it?

I actually think my#1 answer to why bother exercising is this:  you feel better, look better, think better, sleep better, have better sex, and generally live a better quality of life than those who don’t!  Any one of those by themselves would be reason enough for me to bother :-) !
